    Description

This planetag is an authentic piece of a Boeing 720 (Embraceable Annie).
Embraceable Annie was discovered at MHV, after spending most of the 1990s as a DARPA testbed in the development of AIRMS (Airborne Infrared Measurement System). She had been acquired by Hughes Aircraft Co. (later Raytheon) in 1989 and registered as N7381. She was then rebuilt by Lockheed Greenville with modifications to the engines and the addition of an 8’x 6’ aero window to aid in the Raytheon LAX testing operations to benefit U.S. national security.
Before she became Annie, she was Queen of Sheba, a passenger aircraft delivered to Ethiopian Airlines soon after her first flight in September 1965. Shortly after departure on December 8, 1972, an international service from Addis Ababa (ADD) to Europe, an attempted hijacking of Flight 708 occurred. Security overtook the hijackers with no passengers or crew injured - but a quick thinking passenger was able to move an active grenade to an unoccupied area of the plane. It damaged an inboard engine and rudder controls, but the flight made an emergency landing in Addis Ababa.
