    Description

    BRITISH CENTRAL AFRICA
    1898 1d check/cheque stamp
A hard to find Kota Kota cancellation. Many are Blantyre and Zomba
    Postmarked "Ju 28 98"
    Inverted postmark
    Scott # 58a - vermillion & deep ultramarine
With control number "11" on reverse at 5 o'clock (it's very hard to read but it's there: it can be seen when the stamp is held in front of a bright light; note that the "no control" version of the stamp - Scott # 58b - has a higher CV than does Scott # 58a)
On a piece addressed to "...ne Esquire" (perhaps to a Malone or Stone, Esquire). The last letters of "Esquire" can be seen by holding the stamp up to a light and looking at the reverse
Handwriting on the back appears to read "54c 4/- RH"
Type I setting: the vertical frame lines are not continuous between stamps (this = Setting II in the Stanley Gibbons catalogue)
CV is at least 0.00 even for the usual cancellations of Blanytre and Zomba
    Shipped with USPS First Class
